With a mission to help readers discover new metal music, MetalUnderground.com has been faithfully serving mainstream and underground metal news for over seven years. In addition to comprehensive news coverage, the site also features reviews, interviews, band info, live concert reports, photos, and more, updated daily by a dedicated staff of die-hard metalheads.
History
MetalUnderground.com was masterminded in late 1999, planned and developed throughout 2000, and finally launched in March of 2001. The concept was insprired by my appreciation of the quality and upkeep of several of my favorite PC gaming news sites I read daily while working for a gaming company after graduating from college. There existed an obvious void of quality updated sites in the metal community at that time, so I decided to create one.
My first attempt was short-lived, as a plain HTML site was too much work to keep it as up to date as I wanted. Soon after, I became more experienced in the ways of professional web development and began planning an ambitious database-driven site, despite the presence of several excellent metal sites that had risen to popularity by then. Striving to become a premeire metal news site, MetalUnderground.com kept cranking out news from a variety of sources (other sites and many, many newsletters), all the while gaining in readership and popularity until finally becoming one of the top metal news sites.
Today, our news headlines are aggregated and displayed on several sites (including professional industry-news products) and cited on dozens more.
While not always at the forefront of our daily activities, one of our primary goals is and always has been to help people discover metal bands - bands that fit their tastes and underground bands they may never have heard of otherwise. As other developments continue, we plan to offer more means of finding new bands to quench your thirst for metal!
